Ibrahim Aburawi

Graduate Engineer, Infrastructure team

What was your route into Engineering?
Upon the completion of my high school, I studied a Foundation course in order to join university afterwards. In July 2017 I graduated with MEng in Civil & Structural Engineering from the University of Leeds.

Is engineering different to what you expected?
Yes, my earlier expectation of the engineering field was different – I used to think that engineering would only involve mathematics but post-graduation and as I progressed in my career, I’ve realised engineering is a combination of management and design skills – it’s a world of constantly developing your engineering skills.

What is the best part of your job?
As a graduate engineer, I enjoy doing the design work and attending site visits, both of which are highly recommended opportunities to develop your engineering intellectual skills.

What would you say to someone considering a career in engineering?
I would say to them to follow their passion and to do work placements or summer internships during their studies.
