The Railway Institute Association’s Parliamentary Reception
Following the success of our apprentices’ presentations to Rachael Maskell (York Central MP) in September and the developing relationship between Rachael and SYSTRA, John Lowe, Martyn Ayres, Kate Spark, Katie Wickham and Emily-Rose Maule were invited to a Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons this week. The group was asked to present an award to Rachael for her work in the rail industry.
The Railway Industry Association’s (RIA) Parliamentary Reception took place on Wednesday 29 January from 4pm to 6pm in the Terrace Pavilion of the House of Commons. The reception celebrated the role of the rail supply community in keeping our rail network moving.
The event included speeches from Former Member of the Transport Select Committee Huw Merriman, Lead fellow Sir Patrick McLoughlin and Shadow Transport Secretary Andy McDonald MP. The event also contained the RIA Rail Fellowship Programme ceremony – it was during this ceremony that our team presented Rachael Maskell with her award. The group were delighted to receive their own award and had a photograph taken with the Shadow Transport Secretary in front of over 200 people.
The reception was a great example of the impact our apprentices continue to make on the wider rail industry. John Lowe, Senior Mentor to SYSTRAs’ apprentices stated: “Apprentices are the lifeblood of our business and their respective presentations to Rachael in September, which included Ryan Dunning, clearly made a great impression. They are a credit to SYSTRA and their invitation to the House of Commons is evidence of their contribution.”
