SYSTRA’s Key Workers go the Eggstra mile
Despite the unprecedented current situation with the country in lockdown, the railways need to keep running to get our key workers to their places of work and for essential freight transport.
The work to maintain and enhance the infrastructure has not stopped either, utilising the Easter Weekend was key as this had been planned works minimising disruption to the operational network. This Easter weekend, SYSTRA Key Workers completed the Littleport modular platform installation, whilst working to enhanced COVID-19 requirements. This is one of two current projects with our client Volkerfitz Patrick. The other project is a modular platform at Waterbeach.
Our team worked in a 72hr possession daytime Good Friday to Easter Sunday to complete the installation of the steelwork to phase 2 -17m. This involved:
- Gauging the platform length 80m
- Laying the membrane onto the platform
- Installing 80m of copers and tactiles to the platform
All whilst maintaining housekeeping standards and working to the enhanced requirements of COVID 19, including social distancing.
The team achieved all the work planned in the possession whilst adhering to the social distancing measures a great credit due to all involved. Volker Fitzpatrick, our client, were also working in the possession and they were delighted with our progress.

SYSTRA’s Modular Platform System originated in the late 1990’s has been developed over the last twenty-five years and been widely utilised on the Network Rail infrastructure as an offsite modular solution to permanent platform construction.
The Platform System is a fully modularised product based upon a range of standard components; integrated through a bespoke design to fit the individual site-specific requirements.
