SYSTRA Bolsters Its Manchester Team

SYSTRA has bolstered its Manchester-based team with four new hires, reflecting its growing workload in transport planning and engineering in the North of England.

Peter Black joins our Environmental Team as an Associate. Peter has over 25 years’ experience specialising in development planning. Peter led the planning, environment and sustainability work streams for several rail franchise bids for Abellio and FirstGroup. He is currently leading the assessment of a large brownfield site in Castleford, and for a garden village extension to Grantham. Peter also worked for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) where he led the environmental, planning and civic design for Manchester Metrolink extensions. Peter is a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and a member of the Arboricultural Association.

David Weir joins as an Associate Director. David has over 25 years’ experience of highway infrastructure projects. He is currently managing several projects across the region including Haydock Industrial Estate - a transport infrastructure project for the A580. David joins from Curtins Consulting and has spent 20 years in the US working for construction and engineering giant URS, then Parsons Transportation Group. David is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers in the US and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Gabriella Sala joins as an Associate Director. Gabriella has over 18 years’ experience of modelling, specifically its integration with geographic information systems (GIS). She currently works on the Sheffield City Region Model project, as well as a peer review for TfGM’s tram-train project. Gabriella joins from MiC, Milan. Gabriella is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineering (Italy).

Carl Peers joins as an Associate Director. Carl has over 13 years’ experience, with expertise in sustainable transport strategies, transport assessments, environmental statements and travel plans for development projects. He previously worked at development planning consultancy i-Transport LLP. Carl is a member of Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

All four employees will be based in SYSTRA’s Manchester office.
