Emily Shaw wins Future Leader award from RIA

Programme Manager, Emily Shaw is celebrating after winning a national award from the Railway Industry Alliance (RIA), recognising her engineering and leadership skills showcased on the Leeds Station roof project.

Presented by renowned transport broadcaster, Simon Calder, Emily picked up the Future Leader Award at the RIA’s annual RISE Awards at a glitzy ceremony in London. The awards celebrate ‘rail industry supplier excellence’ with teams and individuals awarded for the value they bring to the rail industry.

The Future Leader Award saw Emily go up against industry peers from across the country, whittled down to 3 shortlisted, before Emily’s leadership skills on the Leeds Station roof project saw her hailed as the winner of this prestigious industry award.

When commenting on Emily’s award win the judges said; “Emily has demonstrated leadership skills by taking her ideas and incorporating it into a business as usual environment.”

SYSTRA were the design lead on the new Leeds Railway Station roof and southern shopping concourse project. With Emily as lead on the project, the team delivered a design concept, with tight timelines to deliver a new look concourse and roof replacement. The design incorporates a gold façade, a transparent roof and a first for the industry lighting system; human circadian rhythm lighting.
