Brierley Hill Metro
£200 million from the UK government’s new ‘Transporting Cities Fund’ will be used to extend the Midland Metro to Brierley Hill, West Midlands mayor Andy Street has confirmed. The investment will enable Brierley Hill to be connected via Dudley to the existing network at Wednesbury with 11km of new line.
SYSTRA helped develop the business case for the project. SYSTRA Director Duncan Irons, who led the work, said “I’m delighted that funding has been announced for this project, reconnecting communities in the West Midlands. I’m glad that we were able to play a part in making the case for the investment, and now look forward to seeing the project come to fruition. The Brierley Hill project adds to SYSTRA’s huge expertise in the development of transport business cases in the UK and also our worldwide experience in the development and implementation of light rail schemes.”
