Elisha Allwood

What is your job title and department?
Assistant Technician – Civils. I have completed a Level 3 Railway Engineering Design Technician Apprenticeship. I am now pursuing a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering.

Why did you decide to pursue an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are a good way to enhance your career as they provide a more structured learning path which is recognised throughout the industry. You also learn on the job and gain an invaluable insight into the business, increase your skill set and achieve High Level Qualifications – all whilst getting paid.

What is the best part of your apprenticeship?
The best part of my Apprenticeship is the opportunity to design and develop railway infrastructure which helps to make systems more efficient and reliable leading to improvements in people’s everyday life.

What would you say to someone considering an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships aren’t for everyone. If you believe that you can be 100% committed to the scheme and are genuinely interested in a position within the industry, then an apprenticeship will be the right choice for you.
