Wolverhampton Connected Places Project

Wolverhampton Connected Places Project

THE CHALLENGE

SYSTRA was commissioned by Wolverhampton City Council to develop a Connected Places Strategy and Delivery Plan for Wolverhampton City Centre. The project developed a vision for improving public realm quality and connectivity throughout the city centre to support economic growth and regeneration, culminating in the formation of a strategy and delivery plan.

SYSTRA’S ROLE

We adopted an urban design led approach to produce a clear strategy that is ambitious, but at the same time deliverable and evidence based. The strategy is underpinned by a comprehensive analysis of movement and proposals within the delivery plan include alterations to traffic management and bus routeing. We undertook extensive consultation with both stakeholders and the public to ensure we clearly understood the existing issues facing the city centre and local aspirations for change. This has ensured that the strategy and, in particular the vision and objectives, accurately reflects local views about the city centre and how it needs to change.
