Snow Hill Public Realm Masterplan

THE CHALLENGE

SYSTRA were appointed with Broadway Malyan to develop a Public Realm and Movement Masterplan for the Snow Hill area within central Birmingham. The Masterplan identifies transformational public realm improvements for this important part of the city centre and recommends priorities for investment.

SYSTRA’S ROLE

This project builds on SYSTRA’s work that had previously been carried out, exploring movement in detail in the area. We altered access and circulation arrangements so that traffic volumes were reduced in key locations whilst still allowing access where required. For the wider masterplan, we developed clear approaches to street design and sub strategies for improving the permeability of the area for cyclists and ensuring inclusive access.
