Port of Cork
SYSTRA was commissioned by the Port of Cork Company to assist in the preparation of a planning application for the relocation of port facilities from Tivoli and City Quays to Ringaskiddy.
Port operations are planned to relocate to an area of extensive industry and employment, accessed from the N28 National Road. A key requirement during the planning process is the assessment of the impact of the relocation on the strategic road network surrounding Ringaskiddy, and the identification of practical mitigation measures which ensure the surrounding residents and existing users of the N28 are not significantly impacted, whilst retaining an efficient operating port.
SYSTRA have continued to support PoCC during the preparation for the redevelopment of Ringaskiddy Port. Planning permission was gained from An Bord Pleanála in 2015 and SYSTRA continue to provide transport planning advice for the planning responsibilities set out by An Bord Pleanála and stakeholder discussion to ensure all planning responsibilities are adhered to.
SYSTRA have produced and agreed with Cork County Council the principles of the Construction Traffic Management Plan which sets out the responsibilities and quantum of construction traffic allowed on the surrounding highway network during the construction stage of the redevelopment.
SYSTRA are continuing their support in the development of a Freight Mobility Management Plan. Currently on trial at Tivoli docks this will be relocated to Ringaskiddy with the redevelopment of the Port and will ensure all freight vehicles arriving at the port benefit from an efficient turnaround time.
