Paramics Discovery used to test the impact of housing developments on the Isle of Man
The Isle of Man Department of Infrastructure commissioned SYSTRA to develop a microsimulation model of Ballasalla and surrounding road network using Paramics Discovery.
The purpose of the Paramics Discovery model was to test the impact of two proposed housing developments on the operational performance of the highway network and the extent to which a new Ballasalla bypass would mitigate that impact.
The key objectives of the study were to:
– undertake an operational and economic assessment of the highway network with and without the proposed changes; and
– provide a means of presenting those impacts to the Planning Inspector, the public, Members of the House of Keys and Local Authorities
Paramics Discovery was the ideal tool for the job. Not only could it undertake a robust simulation of the projected traffic behaviour (including re-routing effects), it was perfect for presenting the simulation outputs in real-time 3D visualisation.
