Paramics Discovery used to test roadworks on the M8 Kingston Bridge in Glasgow
SYSTRA was commissioned by Scotland Transerv to undertake a series of traffic management appraisals at various locations in South West Scotland under the 4G trunk road maintenance contract awarded by Transport Scotland.
A key part of the South West Scotland trunk road network is the M8 Kingston Bridge in Glasgow. Maintenance works are required on the M8 Kingston Bridge northern approaches cope and parapet. This will affect the eastbound and westbound carriageways between J17 and J19 as well as various on and off slips between these junctions.
Weekday eastbound traffic volumes on the M8, between J17 and J19, can reach 4,500 vehicles per hour. Understanding the impact the roadworks will have on these significant traffic flows is vital to effectively manage the traffic and mitigate the impact as much as possible.

Using the Glasgow City Paramics Discovery model, SYSTRA will test traffic management proposals for both eastbound and westbound scenarios, and provide estimates of the likely delay associated with the works.
Paramics Discovery is the ideal tool for the task. It can assess the impact the roadworks will have in terms of queue lengths, journey times and re-routing. It also provides a user-friendly platform to test a wide range of different traffic management scenarios and a 3D visualisation to easily understand and present the impacts.
