National Transport Authority (NTA) Transport Modelling Services Contract
SYSTRA provide transport modelling services advice and support to the NTA. Through our work on the modelling services contract, the team have developed 5 regional models covering the Greater Dublin Area and the cities of Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. The Regional Modelling System (RMS) represents all major transport modes including walking cycling, bus rail and vehicular traffic, and covers four times periods throughout the day (AM, Inter-Peak, PM & Off-Peak).
The RMS supports the NTA’s remit in developing and appraising plans and strategies across the country, through forecasting and quantifying the benefits of a range of transport policies and measures. Through the application of the RMS’s modelling analysis toolkit (developed by SYSTRA), the RMS can consistently assess the environmental, economic, social, safety and health impacts of a wide range of infrastructural and land use policy interventions at a local, regional and national level.
The RMS can also be used for developing more-detailed local area transport and traffic models – in particular where testing of local area plans and associated traffic management plans is required in large towns and settlements outside the main urban centres. This enables the NTA and the City Regions to test a wide range of potential future transport and land use schemes and policies in different parts of the country, within a consistent and transparent modelling framework.
