Major Event Planning

Major Event Planning

THE CHALLENGE

SYSTRA has built significant expertise in providing planning advice on traffic management to the promoters of major events attracting large numbers of visitors. We have successfully advised the promoters of the 2014 Ryder Cup golf tournament, the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2016 T In the Park concert, and the 2016 Belladrum Festival.

SYSTRA’S ROLE

Following this success we have been commissioned to provide traffic and transportation advice to two forthcoming major events. Firstly, we have been commissioned by Festival Republic for traffic advice in advance of the Latitude Festival in Suffolk, which is expected to attract 40,000 festival goers in 2017. SYSTRA is developing a PARAMICS micro simulation of the surrounding road network to examine the traffic impact of this major weekend event. We are advising on the impact of the event, traffic management as well as traffic demand measures (ticket to gate allocation). We have also been commissioned by Transport Scotland’s events team to provide traffic and transportation advice and input to the transport planning around the 2019 Solheim Cup golf tournament to be held in Gleneagles, Perthshire. The event will take place over six days in September 2019 and will see an estimated 35,000 spectators per day travel to the famous course through a combination of bus and rail services, as well as by private car. SYSTRA staff will use their local knowledge and experience of event planning for the 2014 Ryder Cup, and more recently the 2016 T in the Park music festival, to provide a combination of transportation and traffic modelling advice to event organisers and Transport Scotland.
