Hounslow Civic Centre, London
THE CHALLENGE
Appointed by Notting Hill Housing Association and Linkcity (part of Bouygues), SYSTRA has worked as part of the development teams designing Hounslow Council’s new Civic Centre, to be constructed in Hounslow Town Centre, and the new residential community which will be created on the existing Civic Centre site at Lampton Road. The consented developments will deliver new, high-quality Civic Offices which will result in significantly lower running costs in an accessible location, and 940 new residential dwellings including retention of the listed historical building at 88 Lampton Road.
SYSTRA’S ROLE
SYSTRA has produced full Transport Assessments for both the new Civic Centre and the residential development, and has also produced a draft Travel Plan and Access Statement for the residential scheme. The residential development includes improved bus stand provision for a bus route which terminates at the site and design of the internal street network. The new Civic Centre design includes a new basement car park, access on to Bath Road, and new Toucan crossing and public realm in front of the new Civic Centre buildings. SYSTRA has also continued to support the delivery of both sites through into the construction phase, preparing Construction Management Plans for each site and undertaking detailed highway design to support the Section 278 and Section 38 agreements. Both developments achieved consent in March 2016; the first phase of residential development is due to be completed in March 2019, with the new Civic Centre opening in September 2019.
