Epping Forest Shopping Park

THE CHALLENGE

SYSTRA was appointed by Epping Forest District Council as Principal Designer for a scheme to improve access to the Epping Forest Retail Park, currently under construction in Langston Road, Debden in Essex.

SYSTRA’S ROLE

The highway works comprised a £2.7M S278 scheme to improve access to a new retail park in Loughton, Essex. SYSTRA was appointed as Principal Designer part way through the design development stage, having reminded the client of their obligations under CDM. SYSTRA is the lead designer for this project, drawing in specialist skills from drainage, structures, street lighting, traffic signals and utilities. All inputs have been carefully co-ordinated to ensure that each designer was working with the latest information and the individual designer’s health and safety issues were considered alongside the collective issues in the whole design package. This information was collated to form the Pre-Construction Information. The Principal Designer representative is Philip John who remains involved through the construction stage, having worked with the Principal Contractor to develop the Construction Phase Plan and reviewing any design changes to ensure that health & safety aspects have been properly considered. The Health & Safety Plan is currently under development.
