Bletchley Station Platform Extension

Bletchley Station Platform Extension

Buckingham Group commissioned SYSTRA (formerly TSP Projects) to extend the island Platform 4/5 at Bletchley Station by 80m, and to complete the work with no daytime equipment access and minimal line blockages.
The other platforms at the station needed to remain in use during construction, and the extension had to be complete in four weeks. To meet these challenges SYSTRA designed a modular solution which allowed us to install most of the works in daytime green zone working, only using possessions for gauging the new platform.

During construction we discovered unknown buried services which required rethinking our solution; we provided spreader beams over modified concrete foundations which allowed us to use our original platform design and thus maintain the construction programme. Our specification of GRP surfacing allowed us to prepare the platform panels offsite, carry them to the site and install them during line blockages and possessions.

We coordinated closely with station staff to facilitate access through the station car park, and provided them with daily plans detailing deliveries to the site and across the tracks from the storage area during line blockages – they were fully informed of our operations and were able to plan their own work accordingly.

Working closely with Buckingham Group on the design and installation, SYSTRA provided an innovative, cost effective solution specific to the needs of this site, delivered on time and to budget with no incidents or complaints.
